Mariko Mori: The Soul Never Dies (2019)

Project developed while employed at Barnbrook
Published by Juxta Press

Mariko Mori’s The Soul Never Dies was part of the Afterlife series by Milan-based art publishing house, Juxta Press, which asked artists to reflect on mortality. The design is informed by Mariko's concept of the Great Light, an all-encompassing white purity that came to her in a dream. The pure white cloth-bound book, and accompanying clamshell box, are blind-embossed and blind-debossed. The book cover uses Takeo Pachica paper, which becomes translucent when heated. Inside, reproductions of Mariko’s drawings are separated by ethereal, translucent inserts, which are french-folded and printed with silver ink.
