Ben Brown & Les Lalanne: A Family Story (2024)

Project developed while employed at Barnbrook
Designed in collaboration with Simona Materazzini

A Family Story documents the relationship between the Brown family and the surrealist artists Claude and Francois-Xavier Lalanne. The design takes this fruitful collaboration and filters it through the french concept of Cadavre Exquis, using a vertical layout grid to create a series of ‘transition points’ where images change, text sequences between different typefaces, and blocks of colour and pattern are overprinted - a dynamic, expressive framework for the Lalanne’s surrealist work. The book is printed in large format on bookcloth, with an inset image on the cover and reverse.
